How Do You Make Play Dough

If you have toddlers in the house and don't want to trust the store-made play dough, here are some quick recipes that you can try at home. So, how do you make one at home? Read the following information to learn such recipes.
Play dough is a favorite among kids in the age group 2 to 8 years. Kids love making animals, faces, cars, houses, and lots more out of it. Also, it feels great to see them learn new things. Here are various recipes for the same; these can be fun for moms to make and kids to play.

Stretchy Play Dough

Ingredients:
  • Flour, 1 cup
  • Salt, ½ cup
  • Vegetable Oil, 2 tbsp.
  • Tartar, 1 tbsp. for elasticity
  • Water, 1 cup
  • Carrot Juice, Spinach, Beet as coloring agents
  • Scented Oils (optional)
Directions:

♣ In a sauce pan or a stock pot, mix the flour, salt, and oil by adding water. Stir it on a low flame until the dough becomes easy to mold.

♣ Put it on wax paper, and let it cool for at least 5 minutes.
♣ Knead it with your hands till it becomes consistent enough to mold. Add some vegetable juices like carrot, spinach, and beet to give it different colors, while you are kneading it.

♣ You can store this preparation in the fridge for as long as you want, and if it starts hardening, knead it with little bit of water or oil.

Rubbery Play Dough

Ingredients:
  • Baking Soda, 1 cup
  • Water, 1 cup
  • Food Coloring
  • Cornstarch, ½ cup
Directions:

» Add all the ingredients in a sauce pan and stir till there are no lumps. Boil this mixture over medium flame.

» When this preparation thickens, remove it on a plate and make colored balls out of it by adding food coloring.

Alum Play Dough

Ingredients:
  • Flour, 1 cup
  • Salt, ½ cup
  • Alum, 1 tbsp.
  • Oil, 2 tbsp.
  • Liquid food coloring
  • Water, 1 cup
Directions:

✤ Mix flour, salt, and water with the alum in a sauce pan and stir it till it is mixed thoroughly.

✤ Mix the oil and color in a separate vessel with water, and pour this mixture to the ingredients. You can pour it on the dough even when you are kneading it. Once it is consistent, use it or store it in the fridge.

Oatmeal Play Dough

Ingredients:
  • Oatmeal, 1 cup
  • Flour, 1 cup
  • Water, 1 cup
  • Salt, ½ cup
Directions:

✜ To the bowl, add some water, oatmeal, and flour. Knead it with some oil and salt.

✜ Do not heat this preparation, as this clay has to be sticky and has a different texture.

Peanut Butter Play Dough

Ingredients:
  • Peanut Butter, 1 cup
  • Oatmeal, 1 cup
  • Powdered Milk, 1 cup
  • Honey, ½ cup
Directions:

✦It doesn't require cooking; you just require mixing all the ingredients in a bowl and kneading it till it's consistent enough to mold.

✦Make round balls from it, and let your kids enjoy playing with them.

Kool Aid Play Dough

Ingredients:
  • Flour, 2 cups
  • Corn Oil, 2 tbsp.
  • Salt, ½ cup
  • Alum, 1 tbsp.
  • Kool Aid bottle of any flavor, 1
  • Warm Water, 2 cups
Directions:

✜ In a bowl or a vessel, add all the ingredients and knead it till you get a stiff texture to the dough. Add the Kool aid for the flavor and fragrance.

✜ Make balls out of the preparation, and give them to your kids to use their imagination.
