As the weather gets colder, it is time to find fun activities for you and your family to do while inside your home. There are quite a few materials that you can use to make crafts which you can display in your home, give as gifts, or sell at a fair.
These activities give an outlet to your creative side while you spend quality time with those you love. Here are few things you can design to give your home a holiday feel for winters.
Let It Snow Inside
If you want to enjoy winter in the warmth of your home, you can construct items that are all about snow. Cover a mason jar with an adhesive and Epsom salt to give it an icy effect and decorate with a bow. You can turn a shadow box into a snow globe and add art or photos inside to give it a personal touch.
Be sure to seal the box so that everything stays inside. Add glitter to create a snowfall effect when you shake it. You can do the same by adding water and glitter to a mason jar and sealing it with glue. Add a little bling to make a snow globe.
Keeping Warm
You can make plenty of warm items out of fleece fabric to use for yourself or give as gifts. Choose two colors or patterns, cut out four-inch slits around the outside of each piece, the tie the slits together to make a tie blanket to cuddle up under.
If you know how to work a sewing machine, you can make a fleece scarf to block the wind from your face or mittens to keep you hands warm. There are also many patterns you can find to make stuffed animals or pillows from this type of fabric.
Taking Care Of Yourself
Bath products are very popular and make great gifts. Look around your local craft store for the ingredients to make your own soap. You can get the base ingredients and add in the scents of the season such as pumpkin spice, peppermint, or pine then let it set until you have your own bars of soap.
You can also take Epsom salts, baking soda, and various scents to blend together a bath soak for your next bath. You can also put the salt in a decorative container to give to a loved one.
Decorate Your Home
There are many things you can create to decorate your home. Purchase ribbon and pine cones and use glue to adhere one to the other. Tie the ribbons together to make a unique wreath for your home. Paint planks of wood white then paint on faces and buttons to make them look like snowmen.
Add a stocking hat made of fabric to the top to complete the project. Melt candle wax into a mason jar or a candle form then add your favorite holiday scent to it to make candles that you can set out all over your house. Purchase a wreath then add ornaments to give your house a holiday feel.
Bling for Your Tree
You can make ornaments to add to your tree to give it a personal touch. Fill preformed clear glass decorations with glitter or confetti to give it color before you hang them. Glue artificial garland to cinnamon sticks then add buttons or pipe cleaners to design mini trees. This is a great project for little ones as well.
Take apart clothespins and paint them white. Add a little glitter if you wish and reassemble them with glue to make a snowflake you can either display on their own or on your tree. Purchase winter branches with berries from the craft store and place them in vases or make vases to display them as a centerpiece for your dining room table or on a coffee table.
